Telese Terme

Telese Terme is an Italian municipality ( comune ) in the province of Benevento in Campania. The village is located approximately 23.5 km west-northwest of Benevento at Lago di Telese with 7118 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). By Telese Terme flows the Calore Irpino.

History

The origins of the community lie in the ancient Roman city Telesia. To 850 the city was destroyed twice. In the period of the High Middle Ages - by 1000 - was located here, a bishop 's seat. Finally Telesia was destroyed again in the late 11th century. A reconstruction began. From the early Norman cathedral today is the tower received. With the earthquake of 1349 not only the reconstructed Telesia was finally completely destroyed, it was also today's Lago di Telese.

Since the end of the 19th century Telese Terme is known for its thermal baths. Telese 1934 was a separate municipality. In 1991 the town name was attached by a referendum of the additional terms.

Traffic

Through the community lead the Strada Statale 372 Telesina and the Strada Statale 87 Sannitica. Together with the neighboring municipality of Cerreto Sannita already exists since 1868 a railway station on the railway line Caserta - Foggia.
