Temistocle Solera

Temistocle Solera ( born December 25, 1815 in Ferrara, † April 21, 1878 in Milan ) was an Italian poet and librettist. He wrote several librettos for Giuseppe Verdi; best known was Nabucco.

Life

After literary and musical studies Temistocle Solera occurred at a young age out as a poet and novelist. Between 1840 and 1845 he wrote four operas at their own libretti had with them but not the hoped for success. At the same time he began writing libretti for other composers. Are still played, and of these is set to music by Giuseppe Verdi best known Nabucco (1842 ).

In 1845 Solera moved to Spain, where he worked as a poet and librettist in different cities. Repeated co- united him with the later director of the Conservatory of Madrid, Emilio Arrieta: Still in Italy, he had provided him with the libretto of his own opera Ildegonda available. With the composition of this text, his first opera, Arrieta had great success, winning the composition prize of La Scala. In Spain, Solera wrote for him the libretto of " La conquista di Granata " ( "The Conquest of Granada ").

In his last years, Solera returned to Italy, where he was close to the Neoguelfismus, politically operated in the background, including as ambassador between Napoléon III. and Cavour acted.
