Tequila is a small town in the Mexican state of Jalisco, the administrative seat of the homonymous municipality of Tequila and famous worldwide for the same liquor. The large revenues from the Tequila distillery, the city has come to great wealth and therefore has a very neat appearance. Tequila is a so-called Pueblo Mágico and popular destination for foreign tourists.

Geography

Location

Tequila is located northwest of Guadalajara in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

Climate

Tequila has a subtropical climate with an annual average of 23.2 ° C and rainfall of 1073 millimeters.

History

Chronicle

On April 15, 1530, the town was founded with the name of Villa de Santiago de Tequila by Franciscan monks, led by Fray Juan Calero. The royal deputy Antonio de Mendoza stayed from October to December 1541 Tequila on to quell the uprising of the indigenous Caxcan. Built in 1600 Don Pedro de Tagle, the first factory in the town of Tequila.

From 1770 the city built on different Spanish schools in order to displace the indigenous languages. 1786 spread a deadly epidemic, large parts of the population fell victim. At that time there was only a practicing physician in the town.

On March 27, 1824 Tequila was declared a separate village. On January 9, 1874 Tequila was raised by Decree 384 to the city.

In 2001, the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Tequila by the Governor of Jalisco Francisco Ramírez Acuña and the mayor José Guadalupe Rodríguez Núñez was inaugurated.

Tequila is located on the highway between Guadalajara and Magdalena 15 and is connected to the railway network.

Established businesses

Tequila lives from the distilleries and tourism. Particularly well known is the international Tequila José Cuervo distillery. Other major distilleries of Tequila Sauza Tequila and D' Reyes. The term Tequila is protected and may only be used by Tequilerías from Jalisco.

Fairs and Exhibitions

From 26 November to 12 December takes place every year, the National Tequila Fair, a featured promotional event for the tequila with cockfights, mariachis and fireworks.

Tourism

Many visitors tequilas are tourists, who are from Puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara from a day trip.

Culture

Traditions and customs

Daily by 21 clock takes place the blessing before the temple, where the priest rings the bell three times. In the surrounding area there are all the people on, turn the TV or radio off, interrupt their activity and are directed to the church.

Education
