Teresa Weatherspoon

Teresa Gaye Weatherspoon ( born December 8, 1965 in Pineland, Texas, United States) is a former professional basketball player. She played for the New York Liberty and the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association as a point guard. Since 2009 she is the head coach of the Lady Techsters at Louisiana Tech University.

2010 Weatherspoon was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

Career as a player

College

Weatherspoon played for the Lady Techsters, the women's basketball team at Louisiana Tech University. In 1988, she won the NCAA championship with the Lady Techsters.

WNBA (1997 to 2004)

Teresa Weatherspoon was selected in 1997 a total of Draft by the New York Liberty as the tenth player in the first WNBA. In the 1997 and 1998 season, she was voted the Defensive Player of the Year. Weatherspoon could not only celebrate individual successes, she reached with the New York Liberty four times the WNBA Finals, but where they failed at the Los Angeles Sparks with the Liberty three times to the Houston Comets and time. After the 2003 season, the New York Liberty did not renew her contract, so she signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Sparks. At the end of the 2004 season, Weatherspoon told at the age of 39 years her retirement from competitive sport.

International (1988 to 1992)

Weatherspoon took with the U.S. women's basketball team at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul the gold medal. In addition, she won the bronze medal with the U.S. women 's basketball team at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

Career as a trainer (since 2007)

2007 Weatherspoon was the head coach of the Westchester Phantoms. In April 2008, she was part of the coaching staff of the Lady Techsters from Louisiana Tech University. In February 2009, she took over on an interim basis, the Office of the Head Coach. On 2 April, she was eventually named the official head coach of the team.
