1997 WNBA draft
The first WNBA draft took place on 28 April 1997 at the NBA Entertainment Studios in Secaucus, New Jersey, United States instead. The selection order is set in a lottery.
In contrast to the later drafts in the WNBA has been broken into three Drafts. On 22 January 1997, an initial player allocation took place, where two players were allocated to the teams at random. After the Elite Draft took place on 27 February 1997, where eight teams were able to select from a pool of talent in two rounds each a player. In this draft, it was at this time only to players who were active in international professional leagues. At last, finally, the WNBA Draft was held on 28 April 1997.
