2009 WNBA draft

The 13th WNBA Draft was held on April 9, 2009. The 13 WNBA teams had out on the opportunity to secure the rights to the most promising talents. Each team may select one player per round.

The Draft 2009

Since the Houston Comets on 2 December 2008 einstellten the operation of gambling, a dispersal draft was held on December 8.

On 9 December 2008, the order of selection was determined in a lottery. This won the Atlanta Dream against the Washington Mystics.

The WNBA Draft itself went through three rounds. Thus a total of 39 players were selected. The lion's share with 35 players represented the United States.

Dispersal Draft

The two Comets players Tamecka Dixon and Shannon Johnson were selected in the draft by any team and thus became free agents. Five other players in the Comets ( Latasha Byears, Mwadi Mabika, Hamchétou Maiga -Ba, Michelle Snow and Tina Thompson) ran from the contract at the end of the 2008 season, so they were before the Dispersal Draft to free agents.
