Texas Mexican Railway

The Texas Mexican Railway ( TM ), short TexMex, was an American regional railroad in Texas. Seat of the Kansas City Southern ( KCS) associated with the company was Woodland. The company sailed a 883 km long stretch between the border crossing to Mexico in Laredo and the network of KCS in Beaumont (Texas ) and thus provided the important link between the two parts of the company Kansas City Southern Railway in the U.S. and Kansas City Southern de Mexico in Mexico ago.

The now existing only on paper company is part of the U.S. part of the international bridge in Laredo. The company had 270 employees last. A separate locomotive park no longer exists.

Route network

The network included the private property located in approximately 250 -kilometer route from Corpus Christi to Laredo. Furthermore, there are route rights to use tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad from Robstown Crossing over Victoria, Flatonia, Houston to Beaumont. The company also includes the disused track Rosenberg Wharton Victoria.

History

1875 was founded by Uriah Lott, the " Corpus Christi, San Diego and Rio Grande Narrow Gauge Railroad ." Two years later 40 km route between Corpus Christi and Banquele were completed and in 1878 was San Diego ( Texas) reached. The interim plan to build a the route to the Eagles pass was abandoned. Finally Laredo in 1881 reached on the Mexican border and in the same year changed its name to " the Texas Mexican Railway". In 1883 the bridge over the Rio Grande was completed, thus creating a continuous rail link to Mexico.

Beginning of the 20th century, the company was taken over by the Mexican Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México, shortly after a New York bank was appointed as trustee. This remained so until 1982, when the TexMex its subsidiaries Mexrail was at the Mexican transportation company Grupo TMM, then still Transportacion Maritima Mexicana, sold and regulated. In order to meet the expected competition from the merger of the Union Pacific Railroad and the Southern Pacific Railroad acquired 1995 KCS 49% of Mexrail. The speculation went on and TexMex received as part of the merger approval route rights for 99 years between Robstown and Beaumont, where a connection to the KCS network existed.

2001, the Company acquired by the Union Pacific Railroad, the 137 km long stretch between Victoria and Rosenberg. This can be partially replaced in the future, the existing use of the UP route. The rail tracks were dismantled to a great extent. The KCS renewed in 2007-2009 the route and took it 17 June 2009 again.

2002 Mexrail was transferred to the joint subsidiary Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana ( TFM) of the owners of KCS and TMM same time asked the TexMex officially the independent operation a. In preparation for the complete takeover of TFM by KCS those acquired in August 2004, 51% of Mexrail. However, since the procedure, the antitrust authorities had not been completed, the shares to a trustee were initially passed. Finally, it could be taken over the TexMex on 1 January 2005 the control. The company is independently further on the paper, but is fully integrated into the business processes of the KCS.
