It has floodlit and has a natural grass.

The stadium was built in honor of the 200 th anniversary of Bangkok in cooperation between the Thai and Japanese governments. The construction of the stadium and facilities was carried out in two phases. Overall, the project took just over two years. The first section was completed by a Japanese firm, while the second was completed by the Thais. The foundation stone was laid in April 1982.

The stadium was sufficient until 2007 international standards. So the stadium for home games of Bangkok United during the AFC Champions League was used in 2007. Various events were also held at the Asian Games here in 1998.

The stadium belongs to the government of Bangkok. The initials BMA ( " Bangkok Metropolitan Administration " ) can also be found in the main stand, molded from white bucket seats. The seats in the back straight are decorated in green and bear the signature Bangkok.

The stadium serves as the home stadium of Bangkok United FC in the Thai Premier League.
