Thamshavn Line

The Thamshavn, Norwegian Thamshavnbanen, is an electric narrow-gauge railway near Trondheim, Norway.

History

Since 1864, copper was mined in the pit, and later came to be pyrite. Christian Thams founded the Orkla ASA and initiated the railway line. On 10 July 1908, the railway operating between Thamshavn and Svorkmo was taken on August 15, 1910 Løkken was achieved Verk.

In 1963, passenger services were set. Freight trains ran until 1974. 1982 is founded the "Friends of Thamshavn " and at the 75th anniversary of the opening of the railway line ran the first museum. On 10 July 1987, the ore mine was finally closed. There is the Orkla Industrial Museum.

In Germany the Thamshavn is known through the use of the German steam locomotive series 99.22 in the Second World War.
