Oslo Port Line

Havnebanen (engl. " The Port Railway ") was a 2.2 km long railway line in the Norwegian city of Oslo. As endpoints of the segment count on the east side of the Loenga station and on the western side of Filipstad station.

History

Havnebanen joined the Oslo V station of Skøyen - Filipstadlinje, which originally belongs to Drammenbane, with Oslo Ø. The line was opened on 13 November 1907, and was the only connection between the western and the eastern rail network.

The port railway was primarily a freight line that served the passengers only sporadically. The freight trains were later transported many years with steam locomotives and diesel locomotives NSB Di 2.

The freight trains on the Harbour line were known in town, because they blocked during their journey through the three crossings of the total vehicle traffic in the town square. After the opening of the Oslo tunnel, the port railway was no longer needed. She was decommissioned in 1983, the same year, most of the trackage was removed. Part of the route was used for a park on the city walls, where a memorial to the deported Jews in World War II was built.

Worth mentioning

Freight trains in front of the Oslo City Hall were involved in the plot in two films of the Norwegian Olsen Gang.
