Thanda Royal Zulu F.C.

The Thanda Royal Zulu Football Club is a South African football club based in Durban, which plays in the National First Division (second South African League ).

History

In January 2004, the club head of the club Hellenic FC exchanged (founded in 1958) from bankruptcy reasons his professional license with Benoni Premier United. In return, Hellenic was awarded five million border. This transaction took place during the current season and has been approved officially by the South African Premier Soccer League. This allowed the then second division Benoni play again in the first division. Until the end of the season they played under the name Hellenic FC further, the team but was already provided by Benoni Premier United. However, the team managed not to hold the class and dismounted. In 2006, then managed to rise again in the Castle Premiership. After the 2006/ 07 season, the club was bought by the South African group of companies Thanda Star Academy and its Swedish partners and renamed in Thanda Royal Zulu. This also included the relocation of the entire club from Benoni to Durban, KwaZulu -Natal. Both 2007 and 2008, the club finished 14th in the table and escaped barely escape relegation in two seasons. 2009 did not make it Thanda Royal Zulu and was only 15th in the table. Palmgren was replaced by the former South African national team and European Legionnaires Mark Fish.

Naming

The nickname comes from the Amabhubesi isiZulu language and translates as lions. The word Thanda in the club name is called love. In October 2007 the name was officially approved by the South African Football Association. Even the king of the Zulu, Goodwill Zwelethini kaBhekuzulu the club name was confirmed.

Under the old Team name Benoni Premier United still the team nicknamed The Rabbits wore ( The Hare).
