The Black Belles

The Black Belles is (English for " black beauties " ) a Alternative-/Rock-/Gothic-All-Girl-Quartett from Nashville. The band consists of Ruby Rogers (Bass), Olivia Jean (vocals, organ, guitar ), Shelby Lynne (Drums ) and Lil ' Boo (also known as Tina nogood ) ( synthesizer). They were discovered by Jack White, who shortly thereafter signed a contract with Third Man Records offered them.

History

Foundation

Shelby Lynne grew up in California. She started playing drums and learned at a girls' school Ruby Rogers and Olivia Jean know. The bassist Ruby Rogers was ostracized at an early stage because of their eye-catching appearance. She learned early on to deal himself and was kind of an outsider. Her family supported her music since her childhood. Ruby Rogers developed a preference for early rock n 'roll, film, literature, comics, drawings and photography. The singer and guitarist Olivia Jean from Detroit began a solo surf project named " Idee Fixe ". In Nashville, Tennessee, they got to know their future band members, seemed to have similar interests. As Lil ' Boo joined the band to the Black Belles were complete in 2009.

Recordings with Third Man Records

Jack White (producer and band member of The White Stripes, The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs ) discovered The Black Belles and realized their potential. In the recording studios of Third Man Records have been shortly after the song What Can I Do? Read and recorded. The first single, What Can I Do? appeared in 2010. Both of these songs were their first publications, which under the leadership of Jack White also two music videos were filmed. The songs are only available as single and not, as usually on the eponymous album The Black Belles.

Another single titled Charlene II ( I'm Over You) was created in collaboration with Stephen Colbert. On November 8, 2011 their debut album was released.

Style

Their music is characterized by garage sound and soul elements of the 1960s.

Appearances

On June 23, published in 2011 The Black Belles in an episode of The Colbert Report, a satirical broadcast of Stephen Colbert. There she acted as backup singers for a song written by Stephen Colbert, Charlene II

Music in the media

Her song What I Can Do? was used as the theme song for the TV show Elvira 's Movie Macabre, moderated Cassandra Peterson used.
