A summer in the countryside is a feature film by French director Jean Becker from the year 1999. It is based on the novel Les enfants du marais by Georges Montforez.

Action

The story takes place in the 30s in the swamp Marais and tells of the daughter of the drunkard Riton, who lives as the other inhabitants of the swamp with his family in a small hut. He is good friends with his neighbors Garris. He wants to actually constantly move on, but the concern for Riton and his family lets him stay.

Will be recounted the events of any summer. Bird free and unattached to beat the two friends through life. They sing the people in May, sell frogs and snails on the market and go work in the garden at hand. Life is not easy, but pleasant.

Together with friend Amédée they learn the ( poor ) rich Monsieur Richard know who himself comes from the swamps and mourning under the thumb of his daughter 's freedom. Riton is forfeited with a vindictive boxing champion and Garris falls unhappy.
