The Dukes of Stratosphear

The Dukes of Stratosphear were a 1985-1987 used and not just insiders known pseudonym of the British New Wave formation XTC.

History

With her albums 25 O'Clock 1985 and Psonic Psunspot 1987 The Dukes of Stratosphear attacked on parodic nature the music of the psychedelic rock of the sixties, and thus made their contribution to the revival of the music of bands like The Beatles, The 13th Floor Elevators, Pink Floyd, The Electric Prunes and The Pretty Things. Both albums were 1987 compiled under the title Chips from the Chocolate Fireball released on CD.

This creative phase was a rather " XTC- atypical " tribute to the 1960s. In contrast to the often socially critical and the UK slow-selling texts written by Andy Partridge under the name XTC, the publications of the Dukes Of Stratosphear were surprisingly well received by the public in England.

The Dukes of Stratosphear experienced a brief resurrection in 2003, the song - take on the compilation The Wish List of the Multiple Sclerosis Society - Open a Can ( Of Human Beans). The piece was later published by Andy Partridge on fuzzy Warbles Volume 7 (2006).

Worth mentioning

  • It seems that Nick Nicelys Hilly Fields ( 1892) ( a British psychedelic rock band ) Andy Partridge et al. inspired the formation of the Dukes of Stratosphear.
  • Under the further pseudonym Terry and the Lovemen they played for the tribute album A Testimonial Dinner as alleged cover the previously unreleased song The Good Things and thanked her alter ego, winking ' " for the loan of instruments" - British humor par excellence.
