The Hamptons, Long Island AVA

The Hamptons, Long Iceland AVA ( recognized since 16 May 1985) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of New York. The area lies in the eastern part of the administrative area in Suffolk County and includes the southern peninsula at the northeastern tip of Long Iceland. The vineyards of the northern peninsula are summarized in the North Fork of Long Iceland AVA.

The vineyard is located on a peninsula east-west oriented with a length of 87 km (54 mi) and a maximum width of 16 km (10.0 mi).

The microclimate of the vineyard is influenced positively by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Peconic Bay. The growth period of the vines is approximately 1 month longer than in other regions in this part of the state. This allows the installation of known from the Bordeaux varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The climate of the southern peninsula is slightly cooler than the northern wine region North Fork of Long Iceland AVA, as is often to be expected here with fog. The soils consist mainly of silt and clay.
