The Hills Shire

The Hills belongs to the city of Sydney, the capital of New South Wales. The area is 401 km ² and has about 170,000 inhabitants. The Hills is also known as the Garden Shire.

The Hills is about 30 to 50 km from the city center in the northwest of the outer city area of Sydney. The area includes 38 districts: Anna Grove, Beaumont Hills, Bella Vista, Box Hill, Burnside, Carlingford Heights, Cattai North, Crestwood, Hillside, Kenthurst, Maroota South, Nelson, North Carlingford, North Rocks, Rogans Hill, Sackville North, West Baulkham Hills and parts of Baulkham Hills, Carlingford, Castle Hill, Cattai, Cattai Creek, Dural, Glenhaven, Glenorie, Kellyville, Lower Portland, Maraylya, Maroota, Middle Dural, Northmead, Oakville, Oatlands, Parramatta North, Round Corner, Rouse Hill, West Pennant Hills and Wisemans Ferry. The seat of the Shire Council is located in the Castle Hill neighborhood on the south end of the LGA.

On 6 March 1906, the Shire was officially founded as Baulkham Hills Shire. End of 2008, the Council requested the name change to The Hills Shire to have a name that represents the whole area. On 14 November 2008 the new name came into effect.

Management

The Council of the Shire of the Hills has twelve members who are elected by the residents of the four Wards (three councilor from the North, Central, East and West Ward). These four districts are set independently of the districts. From the circle of Councillor also the Mayor ( Mayor ) of the Council recruited.
