The Kiss is an American short film directed by Everett Chambers from the year 1958.

Action

A young man who works as an elevator operator, has Feierabend. He goes to a park where he sits next to a kissing couple. After a short time he goes on, ignoring a smoking woman who appears to be begging him to himself, observed a boy on a meadow, going to the cinema in the evening and ends up alone in his apartment. In the newspaper he discovered several personal ads and send shortly a letter from. Soon he meets a woman in park, but quickly realizes that she is not his type. The day has been slow, both have not much to say and at the end flees the man when the woman wants to kiss him goodbye. He buys from a street vendor the book Art in Kissing and rehearses the evening before the mirror, how to kiss and ever comes first kiss.

A meeting with another woman initially runs better. The blonde laughs a lot, can be put by him to the hype, and both go together Ferris wheel. His embrace it eludes. When he kisses her still taken by surprise and she slaps him. Angry man throws his book away shortly thereafter. The book meets a woman on the beach who initially responded indignantly, but eventually have to laugh. The man takes the book and goes into a bar, where it read a woman and a drunken man and laughing about the kiss instructions that implement them so tipsy that besides the bartender and the man laugh. He rushes out of the bar and finally meets the woman from the beach. She is delighted to see him, and they both go to the hype, where are the man for the first time kissing a woman properly.

Production

The Kiss was realized as a black and white film. Only at the moment of the kiss, the film is film to color. The shooting took place in New York City. John Patrick Hayes produced the film with his production company Cohay Productions; he also wrote the screenplay. The film was first premiered in New York City on September 16, 1958.

The film shows Renée Taylor, who later became known as Fran Fine's mother Sylvia in The Nanny, in one of her earliest film roles.

The Kiss was nominated in 1959 for Best Short film for an Oscar in the category.
