Reviews

"Instead of spreading a Kostümbiopic about genius and madness of an artist before conventional history backdrop, Majewski has taken a radical, captivating approach that gives birth to a perfect art film. From the outset, the camera sunk devoutly in the harsh natural idyll of Flanders anno 1564, by measures respectfully tableaux of peasant life style and foggy landscapes, conjuring a fabulous atmosphere and enjoy this in more detail tranquility. From the more than 500 forms of the mammoth image Majewski selects a dozen whose daily task it maps to farms, fields and markets in detail exactly equipped naturalism - non clarifies and yet lyrical. He evokes an almost action- free picture gallery in muted colors, lots of natural light and indirect dark tones. For a long time he can speak sights and sounds for yourself until art collector Nicolas Jonghelinck (Michael York) about the oppression of the Spaniards, painter Bruegel ( Rutger Hauer ) on genesis and approach of his image and the Virgin Mary ( Charlotte Rampling ) about Jesus' death monologically miss.
