The Ragpicker 's Dream (English for " The Dream of the rag-picker " ) is the third studio album by Mark Knopfler. It was released in 2002, almost to the day, two years after the previous album.

Background

It is Knopfler's third solo album. It's content is a collection of songs that are written from the perspective of poor but honorable people trying to cope in life somehow, and often enjoy the little successes. Mark Knopfler plays the acoustic guitar on the album not as often as usual. Nevertheless, it is consistently influenced by folk. Why Aye Man was the title song of the third series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet The village of Tow Law in Hill Farmer 's Blues is just one of many references to North East England.
