The Rose (song)

The Rose is a song from 1979, written by Amanda McBroom for the film The Rose and interpreted by Bette Midler. Midler's version was awarded a gold record and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song and reached number 3 on the U.S. pop charts.

Cover versions

The title was repeatedly gecovert, including Barbra Streisand, LeAnn Rimes, Bonnie Tyler, Joan Baez, The Kelly Family, the King's Singers and the grunge band Mudhoney. The version of country singer Conway Twitty was in 1983 in the country charts in the U.S. and Canada as a No. 1 hit in 2006 as the version of the boy band Westlife in the UK pop charts.

The lyrics has been translated into several languages, including published in 1991 a Japanese version of Harumi Miyako titled Ai wa Hana, Kimi wa Sono Tane (愛 は 花,君 は その 種子) for the film Only Yesterday - Only Yesterday and 1997 a Norwegian singer Kari Bremnes the version on their album Månestein. German versions were recorded, among others, Nana Mouskouri, Katja Ebstein, Ronnie Milsap, Bettina Wegner, Helene Fischer, Peter Maffay and Peter Alexander. Vader Abraham took in 1996 a parody version in Dutch and German language.
