The Serpent's Star

The Serpent 's Star is a computer game of the U.S. company Brøderbund from the year 1983. It belongs to the genre of text adventures with graphics and is the sequel to the game The Mask of the Sun.

Action

The plot in the style of an adventure story takes place in Tibet. The player character, the archaeologist Mac Steele, is looking for a valuable diamond ( " The Serpent's Star" ). To find him, he requires 13 scrolls, containing references to his hideout in the town of Kara- Koram. The player has many scenes of action on the Tibetan plateau to visit, solve riddles, find items and consult with other figures, such as Buddhist monks.

Gameplay

The single-player adventure is controlled via keyboard commands. In a text parser English words and simple sentences can be entered.

Development and production details

The game has a two-dimensional, partially animated graphics. It was first implemented for the C 64, Atari XL and Apple II

Reception

A Review of the computer magazine Happy Computer emphasized the overarching framework for action, the complex puzzles, and the precipitated game scenario as well as the beautiful graphics of Adventures. An American Game review evaluated the content of the game as a whole as well and challenging ( "a good, challenging game" ).
