The Swell Season

The Swell Season is a musical duo consisting of the Irish guitarist Glen Hansard and Czech singer Markéta Irglová.

Name

The name has its origin from an eponymous story of Joseph Škvorecký from the year 1975.

History

Since 2007 they played together in the film Once, increased their visibility. Since then, they use the name The Swell Season, even if they contribute to the I'm Not There soundtrack still titled with their real name in 2007. The first album, The Swell Season, appeared shortly after the Czech director Jan Hřebejk had both asked if they could record a few songs for his film Beauty in Trouble. It was the first album that Glen Hansard recorded independent of his band The Frames.

Some of the songs also appeared on other releases. The title Falling Slowly and When Your Mind's Made Up on the album The Cost of the frames, When Your Mind's Made Up, Lies and Leave on the Once soundtrack.

The following album Strict Joy was released on 27 October 2009. Besides a normal CD and vinyl version, a version with a live CD and DVD was released.
