The Way of the Exploding Fist

The Way of the Exploding Fist is a beat ' em up, which was 1985 developed by Beam Software and published by Melbourne House. The game was available for various platforms. It is known in particular the Commodore 64 version. There were two successors, with different gameplay. The Fist - game series was one of the first with realistic graphics, as well as motion sequences, and is considered a pioneer for the classic International Karate Plus ( IK ).

Game Description

The game is based on the arcade game Karate Champ (1984). Two players compete in a karate duel against each other. If a second player is present, a computer opponent can be selected. There are four different levels with different backgrounds, inside and outside the dojo.

Unlike most fighting games of this type there is no health bar; satisfy two full matches per round. There are 16 different strike or kick combinations and over 600 sprite images, therefore, the animations were very realistic for that time. The graphic designer was Greg Holland.

The SID music Neil Brennan arranged according to Chinese Dance of the Yao People.

The game was ported to the ZX Spectrum (1985) Amstrad CPC, Commodore 16 and the BBC Micro
