The Wilburn Brothers

The Wilburn Brothers were a country music duo, which was active from the 1950s until the 1970s. The duo consisted of Virgil Doyle Wilburn (* July 7, 1930; † 16 October 1982) and Thurman Theodore " Teddy" Wilburn ( born November 30, 1931 † 24 November 2003). Both were born in Hardy ( Arkansas) and grew up there as well.

Career

The brothers began making music at a young age. Unable to work your father Benjamin bought them a guitar, a mandolin and a violin in the hope that they would import some money through public appearances for the suffering family. Doyle and Teddy were the first time with her siblings Lester, Leslie and Geraldine Christmas 1948 as the Wilburn Family on. After that, they played regularly at the Grand Ole Opry, promoted by Roy Acuff. After only six months, they had their engagement but for violations of the child labor provisions give up. A short time later they came to the Louisiana Hayride and remained there until 1951. Afterwards, she broke her career and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

After her release from the military, they returned to country music. Doyle and Teddy got together again and formed from now on the Wilburn Brothers. They now had their own band in 1954 and took its first big hit Sparkling Brown Eyes on. It was followed by other hits that made ​​them stars of the country music scene. From 1963 to 1974 she had his own TV show in which she herself appeared alongside other singers and bands. She also founded the William Talent Agency and the Surefire Publishing Company and were a member of the Possum Holler Opry.

After Doyle's death in 1982, Teddy launched a solo career and was successful until his death in 2003.
