Thespius

Thespios (Greek Θέσπιος, latin Thespius ) is a figure in Greek mythology. He was the son of the Athenian king Erechtheus and Praxithea; his siblings were Cecrops, Orneus, Metion, Sicyon, Pandoros, Alkon, Eupalamos, Procris, Creusa, Oreithyia, Chthonia, Protogeneia, Pandora and Merope.

He was (not to be confused with a native of Ikaria Thespis ) king of Thebes in Boeotia neighboring Thespiai.

From Thespios ' marriage to Megamede, daughter of Arneus, went 50 daughters who Thespiaden ( Θεσπιάδες ) out. According to other sources Thespios had these daughters of several women. He wished that the Thespiaden children received by the hero Heracles. This imposed in Thespios ' order a beating on Mount Cithaeron cattle lions. The wily king promised him each night with each of his 50 daughters, of whom he ever gave birth to a son each. According to another tradition the hero slept with them in one night; however, refused one daughter, the virgin priestess in a temple of Heracles was later, while another gave birth to twins. 40 sons went under the leadership of Iolaus to Sardinia, where they settled in the countryside Joleum.
