Thibaut Fauconnet
Thibaut Fauconnet ( born April 23, 1985 in Dijon ) is a French Shorttracker.
At the age of 17 years started Fauconnet with the relay for the first time in the short track speed skating World Cup, which took place in Italy in December 2002. There, however, he already retired from the lead, even at the Junior World Championships in Budapest in 2003, he failed in every race at the latest in the quarterfinals. In the same year he took part also exclusively in the relay at the European Championships. This time he even won the bronze medal behind the Italian and British team. His first individual World Cup races over 500 meters, he finished first in the quarterfinals, where he narrowly missed third place to the next round. In further stages of the World Cup season 2003/ 04 Fauconnet go again good results, including a semi-final over 1500 meters at the end of the season. But the greatest success of the winter he reached at the Junior World Championships in 2004 in Beijing, where he won the bronze medal in the relay.
The first three World Cups of 2004/05 season, the Frenchman missed, then he reached for the three remaining again good results, even though he missed the finals once again. At the European Championships 2005, the French squadron did not defend her medal, also Fauconnet remained again without the final in the individual race. He went to each of the twelve possible single race of the World Cup 2005/ 06 at the start, he reached the tenth place in the overall World Cup and the eleventh in the 1500 -meter World Cup discipline, although he missed all the finals in that winter. As yet bronze medalist at the 1000 meter course at the European Championships in 2006 he received his biggest single success up to that point in that season, he also won the silver medal of the season. As one of the eight most successful athletes in the European Championships, he also qualified for the 3000 -meter super final where he was disqualified, however, and so fell back in the all-around standings to eighth place.
In the season 2006/ 07 Fauconnet went only a few World Cups at the start, but reached some top - 10 finishes. With the season he managed the World Cup in Heerenveen, where, however, many top runners did not participate, even second place. With the distance victory over 500 meters at the European Championships in 2007 he succeeded the second time in a row to qualify for the Super Final, which ended it, as well as the all-around (Overall Competition ) in fourth place. Here, he lacked only five points for bronze medal by Yuri Confortola. Also, he was fourth in the relay. At the World Championships he placed at the 28th place at 56 participants. In the World Cup 2007/ 08, the Frenchman reached only at the end of the season with a seventh place over 500 meters his only top-10 result. Also at the 2008 European Championship in the Latvian Ventspils he did not defend his good results from the previous year and was finally only 13 without the final. The season, however, he again won a medal, this time a bronze. The 15th place at the World Championships in Gangneung handed approach almost to the outcome of the European Championship, the season was not here at the start.
In short track speed skating World Cup 2008/ 09 Fauconnet reach already at the first World Cup stops on the 1500 - meter distance more top 10 results. His first single podium, he reached the fourth World Cup in Nagano, where he finished behind the South Koreans Sung Si -bak and Chinese Han Jialiang third place.
