Thierberg (Vogtland)

The Thierberg is a 783 meter high mountain in the Vogtland, which geographically is part of the Western Ore Mountains.

Location

The mountain is located in the Erzgebirge -Vogtland, and is bounded on the east by the valley of the Little Pyra with the districts of Hunter Green and Tannenbergsthal the community Muldenhammer. In the north, the slope falls to the valley of the Mulde steeply. To the west is the village of Frederick Green. To the southwest of the slope drops flat for subsequent rounds Karpacz. There is a source from which radium -containing water is revealed on the southern side of the mountain in the valley of the animal creek. The covered source and the surrounding picnic area are a popular destination.

Various forest paths lead to the wooded summit of fully wooded mountain, which only releases the view to the northwest of the district of Frederick Green. From the eastern slope above Hunter Green, the view opens on the main ridge of the Erzgebirge.

History

On the north side of the animal mountain passes in the Mulde 1994 disused railway line Chemnitz- Aue- Adorf. A considerable part of the spruce stand on the northern flank was destroyed on 22 June 1998 together with the stock in the adjacent Mulde by a tornado, by the train station was destroyed in Hunter Green.

Geology

The radium contained in the water of the radium source produced during the radioactive decay of uranium, which is included in the mountains than uranium ore. On Thierberg no mining was carried out in modern times. In a few kilometers south area around Schneckenstein uranium ore was promoted.
