Ore Mountains/Vogtland Nature Park

The Erzgebirge / Vogtland extends over the upper layers of Vogtland and Ore Mountains in the southeast of Germany along the border with the Czech Republic. He is the nature park in Germany with the greatest longitudinal extent of 120 km. Sponsoring organization is the " special purpose association Erzgebirge / Vogtland ". It covers the following protected areas:

  • 228 surface natural monuments (FND )
  • 15 landscape protection areas ( LSG )
  • 41 nature reserves ( NSG)
  • 3 bird sanctuaries

Landscape

The nature park with a total area of about 1495 km ² between the White Elster in the Vogtland and the Freiberger Mulde in the Eastern Ore Mountains at an altitude of about 500 m above sea level and with the Fichtelbergbahn to 1,215 m and covers all major protected areas, forests, natural monuments, which in itself near Elstergebirge and Erzgebirgskamm, are thus in the upper parts of the Western Ore Mountains and the eastern Erzgebirge. It extends across the southern parts of the Vogtland district, the Erzgebirgskreises and the district of Central Saxony, which forms the eastern boundary of the park. From the cities of Plauen, Zwickau, Chemnitz, Freiberg and Dresden, he can be reached at a distance between 20 to 50 km of both individual traffic and public transport with a very dense road network or by bicycle. In winter, winter sports are available throughout the area. Through this area about 5,000 km of marked hiking trails. The area is supplied partly densely populated ( approximately 327,000 residents in 92 cities and towns ) and touristy very good. It is divided into 9% urban area and 30 % of agricultural land and 61 % forest.
