The rules

General

Swimming is played clockwise with a packet of French or German double- cards to 32 sheets ( Skatblatt ). Each player tries when it is your turn to make by exchanging cards a combination on his hand. The goal is not to keep at the end of the combination with the lowest point value.

Rating

There are two different ways to form combinations. Either you collect cards of the same color and adds their points values (see the card game Forty-one ), where:

  • An ace is worth eleven points;
  • The face cards King, Queen and Jack are each worth ten points and
  • The number cards 10, 9, 8 and 7 are in accordance with their eyes.

The highest possible score is hereby Thirty-one: a hand consisting of an ace and two images or an Ace, an image and a Ten of the same color.

Or you collect cards of the same rank, three sevens, three ladies, etc. ( which are of course of different colors). This combination always has 30 ½ points.

Examples

Count 10 10 = 20 points, as only the queen of hearts and the heart - Ten members of the same color.

Count 11 10 9 = 30 points.

Count 30 ½ points ( case of a tie among the higher map sheet ).

Count 31 points.

Expiration

The dealer deals the open play three cards face down individually to all game participants, in itself, however, two packets, each with three cards. He looks at the cards of a stack and decide whether he wants to play with these cards or not. If he wants to play with the cards of the first stack, he is required to disclose in the middle of the table the second stack. Will he not keep the cards of the first stack, it shall adopt these three cards face up in the middle of the table and must accept the cards of the second stack. The remaining cards are set aside.

The player left of the dealer starts the game. He can either replace a card or three cards from your hand with cards in the middle - but not two. He does not want change, he can either push, that is, no swap card, or close the game by knocking (usually with his knuckles on the game table ).

A game can be ended in two ways:

  • Knocking a player, all other players may change again and the game is over.
  • If a player holds 31 points ( Thirty-one, mustache, Knack, Hosn obi ), he puts the cards on the table immediately, and the game ends - which of course can already take place immediately after the cards.

If the game is played, as usual, over several rounds, the loser now be determined. As losers of the player or players who can present the card combinations with the fewest points at the end of the game apply.

Swimming

If you want to play several rounds, each player has three lives symbolically. This can be any objects, such as matches or coins. The or the losers must each make a life, which is placed in the middle of the table.

If a player has lost all three lives, he can still continue to play, but he will now float. If he loses one more time, so he goes down and eliminated. Swimming is thus equivalent to a fourth life.

In this way, a elimination tournament, as the individual players gradually retire and last only one player, the overall winner is left.

Variants and special rules

Swimming or Thirty notwithstanding played by the above principle in many different variations in details. The rules given here are therefore not in the sense of binding, such as the rules of chess - before the start of a match you should so be sure to agree on the rules used.

The main differences relate to:

Maps

With a larger number of participants you can play with a package Whist cards to 52 sheets; in Switzerland are also used Jass cards to 36 cards and plays counterclockwise.

Fire, Lightning

A hand consisting of three cards of equal counts A., 30 ½ points. But often applies a hand of three aces, eg

As the highest combination and is called fire or lightning.

A player holding three aces, he immediately reveals his cards, and the game ends. In this case, all the other players lose a life.

Loser of a game

For many players, the rule is that at the end of a round must pay all players with 20 points or less, and the one or ones that have the lowest score over 20 points. However, the winner of a round never fails to pay, even if he should be the only player with a score over 20.

This rule not only speeds up the game, it also provides additional finesse: if a player 21 points and he can not critically enhanced by a possible exchange, he has to pay in any case. It is therefore advantageous for him to worsen his hand through an exchange, so that at least one other player loses a life - this tactic is called tearing.

Push

Slide is not always allowed, so that the possibilities of the players are reduced to Replace and palpitations.

Action

While doing - a variant of this card game - may be either the point values of cards of the same color or of the same rank cards add ( see for example the card game Forty-one ).

Obscured game

In the concealed game, the player left of the dealer five cards: the first three and then two. He keeps them three cards for himself and gives the other two cards face down to the player to the left. Similarly, each additional player moves once it is their turn.
