Thollon-les-Mémises

Thollon -les- Mémises, known until 1995 Thollon, is a village in Haute - Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Thollon -les- Mémises is on 922 m above sea level. M., 17 km east of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village, which has developed in recent decades to a winter sports resort, extends in the Chablais, on a high plateau at the northern foot of the Montagne des Mémises, high above Lake Geneva.

History

Thollon is mentioned in the 15th century.

Attractions

Worth mentioning are the church of Saint -Ours, which was built in the mid 19th century, and the Chapelle de Trossy, which dates from 1850.

Population

With 683 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Thollon -les- Mémises is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous strong growth of population was recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area. Outside of the old village created numerous single-family homes and apartments.

Economy and infrastructure

Thollon -les- Mémises was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Meanwhile, the village has developed into the winter sports resort with numerous tourist facilities. On the ridge of the Montagne des Mémises performs an aerial cableway. South of it is a ski resort with several ski lifts.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. Access is via a connecting road from Evian- les- Bains.
