Thom Eklund

Thom Lennart Eklund ( born October 28, 1958 in Enköping ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player, coach and functionary.

Career

Thom Eklund began his career as a hockey player with IF Björklöven, for the first team, he was from 1981 to 1984 in the Elitserien, the highest Swedish league, active. His greatest success with the team during this period was the runner-up in the 1981 season / 82nd For the 1984/85 season the winger moved within the Elitserien for Södertälje SK, with whom he won the Swedish championship title at first attempt. In the following season he reached with the team again the championship finals, defeated in this, however, the Färjestad BK. Also in the following years he remained faithful to the SSK, whom he left after the descent in the 1991/92 season. He then joined the SHC Fassa in the Italian Serie A1. There he ended following the 1992/93 season at the age of 34 years, his active career.

From 2002 to 2005 Eklund worked for Almtuna. He first rose in the 2002/03 season with the team from the third-tier Division 1 in the HockeyAllsvenskan on before he spent a year as general manager of the club. The 2004/05 season he began to turn the position as head coach before he was replaced mid-season by Leif Boork.

Internationally

For Sweden, Eklund participated in the World Championships in 1983, 1986 and 1987 and the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and 1988 Calgary part. In the 1986 World Cup, he won the silver at the 1987 World Championships gold medal with his team. In his two Olympic appearances, he won the bronze medal with Sweden respectively. He also represented his country at the 1987 Canada Cup.
