Thomas Laird Kennedy

Thomas Laird Kennedy ( born August 15, 1878 in Mississauga, † February 13, 1959 ) was a Canadian politician and the 15th Prime Minister of Ontario.

Life

Thomas Kennedy was from 1930 to 1934 under Prime Minister Howard Ferguson Agriculture Minister and remained so under his successor George Stewart Henry to the Conservatives in the provincial elections of 1934, a severe defeat against the Liberals suffered. After the landslide victory Kennedy lost his position and did not return until the elections of 1937 returned to the legislature; with the elections of 1943 he sat for the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario in the government. Under George A. Drew, he was re-appointed Minister of Agriculture. After Drew moved to federal politics, Kennedy interim Prime Minister and at the same time as party leader of the Ontario PC Party was elected. On April 27, 1947 Leslie Frost as the new party leader was elected. Kennedy was only seven months, from October 19, 1948 to May 4, 1949 the Premier of Ontario. Under Frost Thomas Kennedy was again Minister of Agriculture, a position he held until 1953. With 75 years he retired from active politics; but remained until his death a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.

Thomas Kennedy died in 1959 at the age of 80 years. To honor Him wearing the Thomas L. Kennedy Secondary School in Mississauga his name.
