Thomas Newman

Thomas Montgomery Newman ( born October 20, 1955 in Los Angeles, California) is an American composer of film music.

Life

Newman was born in 1955 as the youngest son of film composer Alfred Newman and his wife, Martha Louise (née Montgomery ) in Los Angeles. He graduated from Yale University with a "Master of Music Composition ".

His uncles are the film composers Lionel and Emil Newman, his brother is composer David Newman and his cousin is the singer and songwriter Randy Newman.

Newman was previously " Best Original Score " eleven times nominated for an Oscar in the category, most recently in 2014 for the soundtrack to the historical comedy-drama Saving Mr. Banks. In 1994, Newman was two nominations, both Betty and her sisters as well as for The Shawshank Redemption.

2013 took over from David Arnold Newman, who had previously set to music five James Bond films. In James Bond 007 - Skyfall, he was responsible for the score. But he also won a Grammy Award.
