Thomas Olmsted

Thomas James Olmsted ( born January 21, 1947 in Marysville, Kansas) is an American clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop of Phoenix.

Life

Thomas James Olmsted received on 2 July 1973, the ordination.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop on February 16, 1999 in Wichita.

The Bishop of Wichita, Eugene John Gerber, donated him on April 20th of that year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were James Patrick Keleher, Archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas, and Fabian Wendelin Bruskewitz, Bishop of Lincoln. As a motto he chose Jesus Caritas.

After the resignation of Eugene John Gerber he followed him on 4 October 2001 by the Bishop of Wichita. On 25 November 2003 he was appointed Bishop of Phoenix and introduced into the office on 20 December of the same year. From 3 January 2008 to February 5, 2009, he administered the diocese of Gallup during the period of vacancy as Apostolic Administrator.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on February 2, 2011 as the first Vice- President of the " Vox Clara " Committee.
