Thomas Schönlebe

Thomas Schönlebe ( born August 6, 1965 in Mrs. Stone ) is a former German track and field athlete. In 1987 he was for the GDR champion over 400 meters.

Career

Thomas Schönlebe competed for the SC Karl- Marx-Stadt ( Chemnitz renamed in 1990 in SC ), from 1994 to the end of his active career in 1997 for the natural gas LAC Chemnitz. As a 18 -year-old he was in 1983 European Junior Champion; at the World Championships in 1983, he was sixth in the 400 -meter run. His greatest achievement was the world champion title in 1987. Making it the only European on the 400 - meter track scored a World Cup victory. His time of time, 44.33 s, still stands as the current European record. (As of March 2, 2014). On 5 February 1988, he presented in Sindelfingen with a 45.05 s indoor world record. This time is still the valid European indoor record. (As of March 2, 2014). Schönlebe took part in the 1988 Olympic Games, 1992 and 1996, but without medal success. In his playing days, he was 1.85 m tall and weighed 71 kg. After his athletic career, he worked in Chemnitz as a banker; he is managing director of sports clubs LAC natural gas Chemnitz.

  • 1990: 2nd place in the 400 - meter dash ( 45.13 s ); Place 3 of the 4 x 400 - meter relay ( 3:01,51 min, together with Rico songs, Karsten Just, Jens Carlowitz )

Doping allegations

1991 was the doping opponents Berendonk Brigitte and Werner Franke several theses and dissertations former GDR doping researchers make in the Military Medical Academy in Bad Saarow.
