Thomas Schütte

Thomas Schütte ( born November 16, 1954 in Oldenburg ) is a German sculptor and draftsman.

Life

Schütte studied from 1973 to 1981 at the Art Academy Dusseldorf with Fritz Schwegler and Gerhard Richter. It shows in his works great versatility. His work largely deprive all determinations both in the techniques employed, as well as in molding. There are Schütte architecture models such as the cottages for terrorists, besides also etchings and voluminous sculptures. His appearance at the Venice Biennale in 2005 represents a culmination of his career since he was awarded the prize for the best artists in the exhibition. The end of 2007 the work Model for a Hotel 2007 Schütte was selected from colored glass plates for the fourth pillar of Trafalgar Square. Schütte's bronze sculpture United Enemies issued between March 5 and August 25, 2013 New York's Central Park.

Working with your hands, the drawing, the watercolors, modeling, molds with clay and plasticine, building with wood and other materials are the focus of his artistic activity.

Thomas Schütte lives and works in Dusseldorf.

  • His spectacular Documenta exhibit Strangers (1992 ), a group of ceramic clay sculptures is separated today: a part is still in Kassel, the other part is on the roof of the Music and Congress Hall Lübeck ( MuK ) in Lübeck.
