Thomas Sowell

Thomas Sowell (* June 30, 1930 in Gastonia, North Carolina) is an American economist and a fellow of the conservative Hoover Institution. Was known among other things for his criticism of affirmative action from the perspective of a black man.

Life

Sowell studied economics at Harvard College (AB, 1958) and Columbia University (AM, 1959). He earned his doctorate in 1968 at the University of Chicago.

In addition to some non-academic activities such as the Ministry of Labour of the United States (1961-1962) or at AT & T (1964-1965) was Sowell to 1980 professor at Cornell University, Brandeis University and at UCLA. Since 1980 he is a Fellow of the Hoover Institution.

Sowell has also worked as a columnist; his columns are published mainly by conservative media such as National Review.
