Thomas Zangerl

Thomas Zangerl ( born June 10, 1983 in Kufstein) is an Austrian freestyle skis. He specializes in the discipline of ski cross.

Biography

As usual with Skicrossern, Zangerl was an alpine ski racer at the start of his racing career. In November 1998 he took part in FIS races. Best result was a 17th place, which is why he played his last Alpine race in April 2000.

After a nearly three-year hiatus in which he discovered his passion for ski cross, Zangerl debuted on 12 March 2003 in Les Contamines in the Freestyle World Cup, but failed to qualify for the final passages themselves. The following season 2003/ 04 he started with a 13th place in Saas -Fee, which meant the first win of World Cup points. On 21 February 2004 he drove in Naeba eighth for the first time in the top ten.

Due to injury, Zangerl could in the next two winters deny only a few races. The reconnection with the world leaders he succeeded only in the 2008/ 09 season. On 19 February 2009, he was second in Voss and achieved his best result in a World Cup race. Two weeks later, Zangerl won at the 2009 World Championships in Inawashiro the silver medal, behind his compatriot Andreas Matt.

Two seats remained eighth in the World Cup season 2009/10, his best results at the Olympic Winter Games 2010, he drove to 18th place. In the World Cup season 2010/11 he binned twice in third place, while he did not it past in the season 2011/12 does not have an eighth place in the 2012/13 season with a seventh place. The 2013/14 season was initially similar. After he had gone at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 only on 27th place, he surprised on March 16, 2014 in Åre with his first World Cup victory.
