Thomond Park

The Thomond Park is a stadium in the Irish city of Limerick, which is used for rugby matches. It borders since the renovation in year 2008 26.500 spectators and is the home ground of the province Munster team and the clubs Shannon RFC and UL Bohemians RFC.

The Thomond Park is one of the best known and most feared stadiums in Rugby Union, mainly due to the volume during a running game and the absolute silence when executed criminal or increase kicks, regardless of home and visiting team. Munster succeeded in 1995-2007 to win every home game in the Heineken Cup in this stadium. Also there beat the team in 1978, the New Zealand All Blacks with 12:0.

With the professionalization of the sport in the 1990s was accompanied by a renovation of the old stadiums. So the Thomond Park was fitted in 1998 and 1999 with flood lights, new bleachers and medical infrastructure and a new place. In 2006, the Irish Rugby Football Union started adjacent buildings and land to buy to expand the stadium. The work began in 2007 and was completed in the fall of 2008. Two new grandstands were built and increases the overall capacity of the stadium from 12,500 to 26,500.

With the conversion of Thomond Park, a sale of the naming rights up for debate. However, it decided to retain the name and for the individual Tribune names for sale.
