Thorkil Kristensen

Thorkil Kristensen ( born October 9, 1899 in Fløjstrup, Vejle, Denmark, † 26 June 1989), was a Danish politician.

Biography

Kristensen graduated in 1919 first business school and then the community college of Askov. After the acquisition of the Baccalauréat 1922 he studied political science and economics at the University of Copenhagen and graduated in 1927 from.

He then in 1927 assistant professor at the business school at the University of Aarhus and Copenhagen. In 1939 he was appointed as Professor of Economics, Enterprise and Industry at the University of Aarhus, where he worked until his appointment as professor at the Copenhagen Business School in 1947.

He also began a political career in 1945 with the election of the Members of the Folketing, where he represented the interests of the right - liberal Venstre until 1960.

On November 7, 1945 Knud Kristensen appointed him Minister of Finance of Denmark. This office he held until the end of Kristensen's term of office on 13 November 1947.

Following was from 1947 to 1949 Member of the Finance Committee of the Folketing and 1949-1958 Member of the Constituent Assembly of the Council. He also was 1948-1960 president of the Foreign Policy Society.

On October 30, 1950 he was again Minister of Finance and belonged to the Cabinet of Prime Minister Erik Eriksen until the end of his term on September 30, 1953. During this time he introduced a far-reaching austerity program to combat inflation and received the nickname " Thorkil Livrem ".

After that, he was from 1953 to 1960 again a member of the Finance Committee and also the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Folketing and a member of the Nordic Council. In addition, he was from 1956 to 1960 president of the National Association for the fight against unemployment and beyond from 1958 to 1960 a member of the Insurance Council.

In 1960, he was the successor of René Sergent General of the OECD. This office he held until his replacement by Emiel van Lennep on September 30, 1969. Following 1970 he was founder of the Institute for Futures Research ( Instituttet for Fremtidsforskning ) and was followed up in 1988 its director.
