Tiefurt House

Tiefurt Castle is a small country castle on the Ilm in the district Tiefurt the city of Weimar, about four kilometers east of the city center. The palace was the summer residence of the Duchess Anna Amalia of Saxe -Weimar- Eisenach. Together with the Castle Park Tiefurt it belongs since 1998 as part of the ensemble " Classical Weimar " a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

History

Castle

The castle was originally the home of a tenant ducal chamber property. The building, built in the late 16th century and rebuilt and enlarged in 1765, consists of a main building, the upper floor has seven rooms, and a smaller outbuildings. Both are connected by a covered walkway.

In 1907, the castle was adapted into a museum and open to visitors. A comprehensive renovation in the taste of the time around 1800 took place from 1978 to 1981. The sequence of spaces from the time Anna Amalia was restored upstairs.
