Timex Social Club
The Timex Social Club was an American music group from Berkeley, California.
The group is the genres of R & B, Dance, post- disco and soul, whereof the most famous song Rumors dates from the year 1986. Timex Social Club is considered the forerunner of the New Jack Swing movement.
History
The band was founded in 1982, at that time still under the name " Timex Crew " by the students of Berkeley High School, Marcus Thompson. Gregory " Greg B" Thomas, Michael Marshall, Craig Samuel, Darrien Cleage, Alex Hill and Kevin Moore joined him soon, or made music with Thompson more or less regularly. 1986 leaving Thomas, Samuel Cleage and the band again, while Hill and Moore more closely and finally fixed band members were. The name " Timex Social Club" was adopted in the same year. The style of the band, specializing in Old School Hip Hop and the fusion of R & B with hip-hop rhythms, which as " New Jack Swing" later became known.
Also in 1986, the album Vicious Rumors was published on Danya / Fantasy Records. The most famous song of this album, Rumors, made it to number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, in the UK Singles Chart, the predecessor of the UK Top 40, they reached the 13th place in Canada they could with the single even a number recorded one hit. Likewise Rumors reached number one on the U.S. Billboard R & B charts, the Hot Black Singles - Sales, Hot Black Singles - Airplay, the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play, Hot Dance/Disco-12 inch singles sales charts. The two then released singles Thinkin 'About Ya and mixed- up world again reached the R & B Top 20 in the U.S., found internationally but no more attention. Thinkin 'About Ya could record a success, because Club Nouveau coverte the song in their hit Why you treat me so bad.
Rumors
The surprising and sudden success of the single Rumors called the producer and co-founder of the label Def Jam, Russell Simmons to the plan, this booked the band as the opening act for eight shows of the " Raising Hell " tour of the U.S. American rappers Run-DMC. Additional artists this tour were the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J and Whodini.
Also, due to the success of the single of the Timex Social Club was as the opening act for the likes of New Edition, Midnight Star, SOS Band, Kool & the Gang and Jermaine Jackson occur.
Tour
The band is still visible at concerts in the United States. Marcus Thompson ( DJ) and Samuelle Prater (vocals ) stand for the current occupation. The published works of the band played in mostly American music shows as before, mainly in so-called " Old School Mixes ". The band's songs are often used as samples, so among other things, 2pac, Public Enemy and Master P
