Timo Wess ( born July 2, 1982 in Moers ) is a German former hockey player and was captain of the German national team. He is the older brother of Benjamin Wess.

Timo Wess, who had initially abandoned in his youth hockey games in favor of football, and who then finally decided with 14 for hockey, his hockey career began in the now-defunct hockey Department of Moers SC.

He played for the first time in the national team on 26 February 2001 in a friendly match against India. A year later he was with the German national champion in Kuala Lumpur.

In 2006 he became world champion in Mönchengladbach with the German national team. He contributed directly to the finals of the German team in this tournament, by embracing stopped an opponent's ball on the goal line in the semi-final against Spain three minutes before the end of normal time, and thus kept open the way for the extension of Germany. He was since the Olympic Games of Athens 2004 team captain of the German national hockey team. After the Olympic victory in 2008 he was no longer part of the squad at major international championships. In 2012, he returned at the European Indoor Championships and helped with the title. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012, he won the German hockey team for the second consecutive gold medal.

Wess was since the season 2007/2008 players in the hockey league at Rot-Weiss Cologne, before he played for the Crefelder HTC. In Cologne he continued to play with his brother Benjamin. In September 2012, Wess announced his retirement from competitive sport. Overall, he completed 264 international matches, including twelve in the hall.

Timo Wess was considered one of the world's best defensive player and outstanding defensive strategist. A particular strength of " Wesa " ( nickname) were his sharp shot penalty corners. Wess was one of the very few players in the world who could scoop the hockey ball almost over the whole field hockey.
