Tirana County

The Tirana County (Albanian Qarku i Tiranës ) is one of twelve Qarks in Albania. It is located in central Albania and has an area of ​​1,652 square kilometers. Its population is 763,634 ( 2011). The population density is the highest in the country with 462 inhabitants per square kilometer. Tirana is the capital.

Geography

The Tirana County consists of the two circles Kavaja and Tirana. In the Southwest it borders on the Adriatic Sea. Between the coastal plain to Kavaja and the level of Tirana and along the southern border is little serviced hills. East of Tirana rises the Skanderbeggebirge, in which lies the mountain of the city DAJTI. Between the two circles of Qarks there is no direct road - all traffic via Durres.

By Qark flows in the center of the territory of the ores. In the city of Tirana is the Lana River Tirana, both of which flow to Ishëm. The Shkumbin also makes for some kilometers the Qark - border Fier. Throughout the region there are individual lakes, reservoirs and reservoirs. The largest are the Bovilla reservoir north and the Liqeni i Farkës east of Tirana.

Northwest of the Qarks is the Qark Durres, northeast of Qark Dibra, southeast of Qark Elbasan, and in the southwest it shares a border along the Shkumbins with the Qark Fier.

Population

The Qark is the most populous of Albania. The strong internal migration since the end of communism has led to a significant increase of the population in Greater Tirana - Durres.

For 2009, the Statistical Office of Albania Instituti i Statistikës recorded 800 199 inhabitants. In the 2011 census, however, only 763 634 inhabitants were recorded, which still corresponds to a population increase of over 25 % in ten years, when the population stood at 601,565 people.

Politics and Administration

The Qark Council ( Alb. Këshilli Qarkut i ) is composed of 83 members, the majority of which belong to the Democratic Party, holding the chair with Tahsim Mema.

The Qark provides 32 deputies out of a total of 140 for the 2009 and 2013 legislative sessions beginning of the Albanian parliament
