Tithe barn

As a tithe barn tithe barn or a warehouse for the delivery and storage of the tax in kind was called tithe in medieval times. In Baden -Württemberg and Bavaria, the term Zehntstadel or Zehntstadl is often used.

For special large barns were built in villages and cities, which were often after or even before the church the largest buildings of the town, not only because they had to absorb considerable amounts of various goods taxes, but also because they documented the claim to power of the tithe men on site. In its architectural diversity tithe barns reflect regional and epochal differences in style and materials, as well as the different economic power of their builders.

Tithe courts or administrative buildings were of course also tithe barns for storage of Natural tithing.
