Toimi Kankaanniemi

Toimi Olavi Kankaanniemi ( born February 26, 1950 in Tyrvää ) is a politician of the Finnish Christian Democrats (KD).

Study and career

Kankaanniemi first completed a degree in Social Sciences, from which he graduated in 1971 with a diploma. This was followed by a study of local government engineering at the University of Tampere, which in 1975 he also finished with a diploma. After he was first town clerk and acting mayor of the municipality Siikainen. From 1976 to 1987 he was town clerk and then temporarily deputy director of the municipal community Uurainen.

Political career

Kankaanniemi began his political career on 21 March 1987 with the election of deputies of the Reichstag. There he represents since the interests of the Finnish Christian Democrats (KD) the electoral district of Central Finland. In the current parliament, he is a member of the Trade Committee and alternate member of the transport and communications and the Agriculture and Forestry Committee.

From 1989 to 1995 he was chairman of the party of the KD. During the ( so far only ) involvement of KD in a government he was on 26 April 1991 to June 28, 1994 Deputy Foreign Minister and Deputy Social and Health Ministers in the Cabinet by Esko Aho. When he 1995 Group Chairman in the Reichstag was, he left Bjarne Kallis the party chairmanship. The position which he held but only for a year.
