Tom Compernolle

Tom Compernolle ( born November 13, 1975 in Bruges, † 16 June, 2008 Aartrijke ) was a Belgian athlete.

Tom Compernolle was a long-distance and cross-country runners. Between 1998 and 2005 he took part in eight times the current world or European championships of the year in cross-country running. The best result at a European Championship reached the Flame, 2003 in Edinburgh than 15, at a World Cup was number 31 in Brussels, his best result. He also ran on the Olympic 5,000 - meter course. Here is his biggest success was the participation at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he finished 14th in his semi-final run. At the European Championships in Munich in 2002, he was on the track 13, 2006 in Gothenburg tenth. 2001, 2002 and 2004 was Compernolle Belgian champion over 5000 meters, 2004 he won also the title of the Flemish master over this distance and Belgian champion in cross-country running.

Compernolle, who was nicknamed TC Swoosh, started for AS Rieme and was trained by André ORNELIS and Kristof Haverbeke. Since October 2007, the Torhout worked for the Belgian Armed Forces. On 16 June 2008, he died on a ride on a military vehicle in West Flanders after an accident on site. He left behind his partner and a seven year old son.
