Tom Pendry, Baron Pendry

Thomas Pendry, Baron Pendry PC ( born June 10, 1934) is a British Labour politician and member of the House of Lords. Pendry was 1970-2001 Member of Parliament for the constituency of Stalybridge and Hyde. His successor, James Purnell. Pendry 2000, on the recommendation of Tony Blair a member of the Privy Council. He was raised as Baron Pendry of Stalybridge in Greater Manchester for Life Peer in 2001. Lord Pendry is a parliamentary aide of The Stamford Group Ltd. Parliamentary Consultant to the Arrowcraft Group plc. President of the Oyston Steel Estates Ltd, President of the Football Foundation Ltd.. and consultant for the Tameside District Council Sports Trust.

Life

In an article published in Cheshire Life in June 2004 article explains Pendry, that he was born in a relatively comfortable environment in Broadstairs, Kent, and the school in St Augustine's Abbey attended. Pendry subsequently visited the Oxford University. He worked as an official for the trade union Nupe and worked as an engineer before he was elected to Parliament in 1970. He served from 1971 to 1974 as a whip for the opposition.

Cabinet Callaghan

In the cabinet Callaghan Perry worked 1976-1979 as Junior Lord Commissioner of the Treasury and Assistant Government Whip. Subsequently, he was Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

Opposition

1979 Pendry was at the suggestion of John Smith Shadow Minister for Sport and Tourism. He had this position until the takeover of the government by the Labour Party in 1997. Pendry was the only member of the Shadow Cabinet, which took no government function.

Honors

1995 appointed the Tameside Metropolitan Borough Pendry an Honorary Freeman. Furthermore Pendry was appointed Lord of the Manor of Mottram in Longdendale. The Tameside Council has been a part of Trinity Street in front of the old market hall Stalybrige Lord Pendry Square. Stalybridge Celtic named one of his tribunes The Lord Tom Pendry stand

Sports

Pendry critics for his service in the RAF regularly sport. In February 2003 he was appointed president of the Football Foundation. and he Continues to serve in this position. Pendry learned boxing from a Benedictine monk who was an Oxford Blue and won a title in a boxing competition of the RAF
