Tommy Burns (boxer)

Tommy Burns (actually Noah Brusso, born June 17, 1881 in Chesley, Ontario, Canada, † May 10, 1955 in Vancouver, BC ) was a Canadian boxer and world champion in emphasis from 1906 until 1908.

Burns led an eventful life, as he moved, for example, in 1904, once the Klondike to be a gold mine, which he had won in poker to watch. Here he met the legendary Mike Mahoney and reached in the fight with this after all a draw.

His world title he won in the fight against Marvin Hart, on 23 February 1906 in Los Angeles, after 20 rounds ( point victory ). The title he defended eleven times in less than two years. He lost it again on December 26, 1908 against Jack Johnson in Rushcutter 's Bay (Australia) in fourteen rounds. He broke Johnson, who was considered a big favorite, two ribs.

His last fight he played against Joe Beckett in London on 16 July 1920. He lost by KO in round 7

1996 was Burns induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
