Tommy Makem

Tommy Makem (* November 4, 1932 in Keady, County Armagh, Northern Ireland; † August 1, 2007 in Dover, New Hampshire, United States) was an Irish singer and musician. Tommy Makem was especially true in the U.S. as one of the most famous musicians of the traditional Irish folk.

He emigrated in the 1950s in the United States and played with the Clancy Brothers. They played in sold-out concerts, including New York's Carnegie Hall. Makem and Joan Baez were celebrated in 1961 at the Newport Folk Festival as the newcomer of the American folk scene. 1969 left Makem the Clancy Brothers and tried a solo career; short time later, he met with Liam Clancy on as Makem and Clancy. In 1988 he played alone again.
